World War Z Book Review

World War Z
By Max Brooks

World War Z Review

Quick thought:
I thought that this book was quite good! It is very different from other books because this is in a series of interviews with different people about their experience with the war against Zombies. This wasn't a page turner to me but it was still a good read and very interesting. I will give this book a 3.5/5 stars.

What I liked:
Max Brooks has thought of everything! I thought that this book was very well thought out and planned! It really did seem like I was reading real interviews. Brooks thought out everything and the world seems so real! It just took my breath away after reading this thinking wow that whole story that whole world was made up in just one mans head! I also quite liked a few of the interviews, some of course were very militaristic, very political and some very personal stories. The ones that stuck out to me were very personal ones and also some that dealt with less military firearm like things. There were I would say 5 that stuck out to me the most in this book (this is in order of appearance in the book).

One: The woman who I am not sure what she has but she has so kind of mental disorder and her mind is much like a child's though she is around 25. Her story stuck out to me because she was just so oblivious to everything that happened. Her mind could not understand.

Two: The girl from Canada I think who went up north with her family. I thought that it was a great way to show how quickly humanity can lose their trust in everyone around them. At first everyone was happy and it was like a camp, singing by the fire and sharing everything. By winter there were too many people to deal with that no one trusted each other and it was every man for himself.

Three: A Japanese young man was so invested in his computer and the cyber world that he didn't care that his parents went missing. He only realized he needed to something when his computer server broke down and he had no connection to his cyber world. He had to think fast in getting out of his apartment before the zombies attacked him. He was very fortunate that he had learn quite a lot so he can use his knowledge to get himself out.

Four: Another Japanese man, only this man was blind due to looking at the flash of the atomic bomb back in 1945. He fled to the mountains and he had only his other senses to help him out. He even mastered how to kill zombies with a one hit strike. I thought he was a great character in that he didn't let anything let him down and kept his zen to survive.

Five: Dogs. I loved the story of the man who worked with the dogs in the military force. He has such a great connection to them and his story and the dogs stories really touched my heart. Especially learning how so many of the people who lost their dog offed themselves afterwards because they just couldn't and wouldn't live on with out their companion.

What I didn't like
This books like I said before is not your conventional dramatic structure, with the beginning middle and end set up. It was just short interviews with people all over the world. I thought that the book was really well written and planned out but I don't think it would be a reread. It just seemed like I was in a way reading the newspaper, it isn't like I am going to reread the papers. It was very basic in the sense that it was just a short point of view story and not a complete story of just one person. I would have liked another book about the "author" and his experience alone. I say "author" because the man who conducts the interviews is the one that has written the book so people all over the world can read other peoples experiences. Some of the stores were quite interesting and a few interviews or just a few parts of just many 3-4 peoples experience would be I think a better read. Because then you connect with their story more. I thought that there needed more of a connection and I did connect to a few but it was just too short for me to really have it soak in and for me to really appreciate it. This book also too me a long time to read. It isn't a very long book, it is the standard around 400 paged book. The book even led me to a reading slump I didn't touch it or any book for almost 2-3 weeks. But I managed to push through and finish it. I thought that near the end of the book was more interesting an engaging than the beginning middle of the book. I still quite like the book but of course very rarely is there the perfect book. I would recommend it to anyone really who likes fictional history, zombies and politics.

Agnès b. Café

Today I went to the Taipei 101 to go book hunting to see what books they have here in Taipei that I would like to purchase. I first went to Eslite which is the main bookstore branch in Taipei to see which books they had before heading to Taipei 101's Page One. I ended up going to Agnès b. Café. I had seen a few of these cafes here and there around Taipei but never really tired it.
I thought today would be as good as any day to try it out. I thought that it was really interesting that a clothing line had their own cafe. As I looked at their choices and prices I realized that this was more expensive than Starbucks. I figured since it was a expensive clothing store that of course if they are going to sell food the prices would be much higher than regular coffee shops.
I ended up getting a Latte and Cheesecake. The price for the coffee was 125nt or $4.40 usd which I guess is the average price of a coffee at Starbucks but the price for food was really expensive. A cheesecake was 130nt or $5 usd. I thought that was way over priced for the size of the cheesecake. It was a pretty good cheesecake but I would have paid that much for two of them.

Yoppi: Froyo Time~!

Today I went to have a reading hangout with my friend. We ended up going to get some frozen yogurt close by because it was just too damn hot outside (around 35C plus 85% humidity). I love this froyo place! I think it is so adorable! All the cute colours and also all the different flavours! Sorry I don't have a photo of the choices I totally forgot to take one! Next time! This Yoppi store is in the TianMu area near Taipei American School (my old school). The prices are determined by the weight of your cup. I don't remember the conversion but my yogurt was 148nt or around $5usd. I ended up getting Chocolate and Peanut-butter flavor yogurt! It was just right for this kind of weather here in Taipei!

Here is me with my froyo! Yummy!

I have changed up my reading list for this summer but I still am reading the books I said I would read. I recently got two new books, both by Cassandra Clare. I got the first book of her "The Mortal Instruments" series "City of Bones" which the film will be coming out this summer and also "Clockwork Angel" from "The Infernal Devices" trilogy. Now I wanted to add these to my reading list so I split up my summer reading list to July and August. This is the July list!

I am currently reading City of Bones and also I am still finishing up World War Z
I will have a review of World War Z up very soon (as soon as I finish it)

Sababa Pita Bar

Today I went to Sababa Pita Bar with my friend! I love this place, I have been going here since middle school. Sababa is a Middle Eastern restaurant, the one I went to is by Gongguan MRT Stop in Taipei. Here is their website for more information: http://www.sababapita.com/franchise.php I think the prices are not too bad they are around 150nt or $5usd for one pita sandwich. The prices are a bit pricey at times but I love the food and I think it is worth it. This place to me is also a place for a treat or sometimes special occasions, not something you can go everyday. The food is also quite healthy in the fact that it is not very oily and everything is very natural! You don't feel really stuffed after eating. The feel and the vibe of the place is great! It has a very well of course Middle Eastern feel, very boho and gypsy like. The place is also quite dark, so sorry about the lighting in the photos.

Here is me eating my lovely lamb shawarma which is shaved lamb with hummus, tomatoes, lettuce and mint yogurt
Here is the sign outside of Sababa

We also went to the book store today to see if there was anything we wanted to get! I got two book that I have been dying to get my hands on which are two books from Cassandra Clare. I got "Clockwork Angel" from "The Infernal Devices" Trilogy and also "City Of Bones" from "The Mortal Instruments" series. I am so excited to read these! Especially "City Of Bones" mostly because the movie is coming the end of this August! I can't wait to see the movie! It has one of my favourite actresses as the main protagonist aka, Lily Collins. I love her! I think she is so beautiful and she reminds me of a modern day Audrey Hepburn. Hopefully I will be able to add these to my to reads list for the summer and still get to all the other books I wanted to read! I have till mid September to read all before school starts so hopefully I'll have plenty of time! I am just so excited!

Summer Essentials: Skater Skirt

I love skater skirts! I think they are really cute and simple for the summer! You can pop on any kind of top from a sweater to a crop tee and anything goes! I personally love wearing skater skirts because they are light and simple. Also very flattering for any kind of body type! It hugs the waist well and just flares out and give the appearance of a small waist.
I think they are a great summer essential because skirts for me at least have always felt lighter and gave me more of a breeze and also it goes with any top!

There are SO MANY different kind of skater skirts so whatever your style is you can always find one that suits you the best and your wardrobe

I hope you stay cool this summer and have fun with your outfits

Simple Summer Outfits

The one thing I don't like about summer is that I cannot layer my outfits especially since I live in Taipei, Taiwan and it is extremely humid and hot here. It feels like 40C and the humidity is around 80%. Layering is out of the picture.

But that doesn't mean that you have to look super plain with denim shorts and a really generic t-shirt to stay cool this summer. I found some great outfit ideas that are super cute, super fun and also is light and great to beat the summer heat!

You'll be amazing how great a tank and shorts look when you have the right combo and mix it up with your materials! You don't always have to stick with denim. I hope you get some inspiration from these outfits like I have! Stay cool this summer and have fun~!
